Junior House System
York Tennis Club Junior House System
At York Tennis Club we are focussed on improving our players tennis skills and physical health. But we aim to do much more than that!
Our coaching team are determined to help promote positve behaviours, instil core values and build an understanding of community spirit in the children that we teach.
In order to help us inspire and engage our chiildren we have designed a Junior House System to reward good behaviour, effort, kindness, motivation among many other brilliant behaviours that our pupils display.
Every term we will celebrate the house that has collected the most points! We also aim to decorate the clubhouse with more information and updates about our houses!
House Names & Points
We have four junior houses with a mixture of children assigned to each house. We want players from different days & groups to be mixed and houses to be made up of a variety of children at different ages and stages of their development.
Our houses are named after incredible tennis players who also display some amazing characteristics and traits that we can educate our players about. They are excellent role models in terms of tennis play but because of so much more than that too.
Our houses are:
Serena - (Serena Williams) one of the greatest athletes of all time, independent, great voice for feminism & equal opportunities.
Murray - (Sir Andy Murray) an amazing role model in terms of effort, attitude and perseverance. Best GB player of all time.
Federer - (Roger Federer) The greatest. Wonderful example of sportsmanship, class and love for the sport.
Osaka (Naomi Osaka) Superstar, winner of multiple Grand Slams at a young age. Example to others in terms of using her platform to raise awareness on multiple issues such as Black Lives Matter and mental health.
Lanyards & Reward Cards
Each junior member receives a personalisd lanyward with their name and house. The card attached is how we keep track of how many points your child earns so please keep it safe and bring it to the club when you attend lessons if you can.
More Than Coaching
Our junior house system has already had a massive impact on how we deliver our coaching and the level of engagement from our juniors has been superb!
We want our players to enjjoy coming to the tennis club, for their coaching, as they all do, but also go further than that. Players will gain points for their house by attending other events as well such as our Junior Club Night on a Friday evening.
Once Covid allows we want to build a calendar of events so that our juniors can attend fun socials, low key tournaments and team challlenges, parties and more. These will all be shared on our social media accounts and displayed around the club.
