A Welcome from the Chair
The ethos of York Tennis Club is to be fully inclusive of all standards, to promote a love for tennis and have fun, both on and off the court.
York Tennis Club is set within the picturesque grounds of York Sports Club at Clifton Park located just outside the centre of the beautiful city of York on the A19. Founded in 1966, the club is now in its fiftieth year at its present site. It is undoubtedly one of York’s premier clubs as testified by its success in local and county leagues over many years, its Tennismark accreditation and the extensive coaching programmes available to junior and senior players of all standards.
The quiet setting of our six astroturf courts, five of which are floodlit, provides a lovely setting and playing environment for players and spectators alike. The club however, is so much more than its superb courts and facilities, as it has friendly and welcoming members who nurture an informal and sociable atmosphere, on and off the court.
Catering for all standards, the club offers a wide range of membership packages for individuals, families, day-only members, juniors and students. For additional information about the membership packages on offer, please refer to the ‘Join our Club’ page
With its all-weather playing surfaces and floodlights, the club is active all year round for club play, coaching sessions and during late spring and summer, a heavy programme of matches for those players wishing to play competitively in ladies’, men’s or mixed matches in local and county leagues.
The chief aim of the club is to be fully inclusive of all standards, to promote a love for tennis and have fun, both on and off the court.
As Chair and ably supported by a hard-working and ambitious committee, we have now completed the transition to LED floodlights.
We have resurfaced 3 courts at great expense to very high quality sand dressed Astros.
We are continuing to improve our on court facilities for our current and potential members.
We will also continue to improve our off the court facilities and encourage the social aspect at the club with a plan to replace the current tennis club pavilion.
Finally, our longer term goal is to find the space to add 3 hard courts to ease the pressure on court demand
These developments are dependent on securing funding from our own resources as well as from national supporting bodies and the National Lottery. However, our enthusiastic and energetic committee is confident that funding can be obtained and the vision be realised.
We are always happy to welcome new members and to get as many people participating in the wonderful game of tennis. Please contact either me, the club coach or other committee members to arrange a visit or a ‘taster’ session or alternatively, just turn up at one of our club play sessions. Also please browse our website for further information. A warm welcome will be guaranteed and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Whilst we are members owned we also benefit from being part of the wider York Sports Club which also offers cricket, squash and rugby facilities. As part of this wider membership we can take great advantage of these wonderful amenities. The club has recently invested heavily in a spacious and comfortable bar and multi-purpose function rooms meaning we now have the perfect venue for watching sport, meeting friends, enjoying a post-match drink or hosting your special occasion.
